When mum, Christina, began her breastfeeding journey with her oldest son, she discovered how difficult it was to find fashionable and functional breastfeeding wear. 

“I’ve always loved fashion, so deciding what to wear, whether at home or going out with my babies, has not been easy!”

The idea for Melody the Label came shortly after she attended New Zealand Fashion Week, where the theme was sustainability.

“It suddenly hit me that not only did I need stylish breastfeeding wear in my life, but it needed to be sustainable, ethical, and natural.”

She dove headfirst into research, and discovered that she could not find any truly sustainable breastfeeding wear that didn’t compromise. That was when she realized that she needed to create it herself. 

So after far more research, brainstorming, designing, sourcing, and sampling, Melody the Label was created and the first few shirts were made.

Melody the Label uses linen, organic cotton, hemp and tencel fibres for their garments. 

They ensure that each garment is produced with GOTS certified fabric, which enables Christina and her team to ensure that their products have minimal impact on the environment and that each worker involved is treated well and paid fairly.

“We are in constant communication with our suppliers who have holidays, are paid above minimum wage, work in safe and supportive working conditions (including air conditioning), and have regular breaks in their work day.”

Melody the Label is constantly expanding its collection. Mums around the country are thrilled to finally find breastfeeding wear that doesn’t compromise on look, quality, or ethics.
