About

Common Good Coffee exists to support positive change in some of the poorest communities in the world.

You may recognise them as the crew behind Addington Coffee Co-op in Christchurch, Crave and Kind Cafes in Auckland, and the Common Ground Coffee pop up in Whanganui.

The Common Good team is focused on supplying and roasting the best ethically traded coffee around. Their signature green beans are fairly traded and organically grown. 

They sell five different roasts from countries around the world, including Ethiopia, Mexico, Honduras and Colombia. Behind every coffee is a community of coffee growers striving to produce both the best quality coffees they can, and a better future for their families. 

Common Good Coffee’s Fairtrade supply chain ensures that coffee growers get paid what they deserve, not just what the market dictates.

Fairtrade premiums go towards improved production processes as well as social services such as improving healthcare and educational opportunities.

Common Good founders, Addington Coffee Co-op, have repurposed around $1.5million towards global and local community initiatives. And Common Good Coffee redistributes $5 from every kg of coffee sold (or used in cafes) to support community initiatives led by Joyya in Kolkata, India. 

Joyya works alongside communities where poverty has dominated daily life. Funds go towards supporting locally-led social services that give communities hope and opportunity for the future.

Common Good also recognizes the importance of environmental stewardship. All of their coffees are certified organic – which is kinder on the earth and better for the communities of growers. 

In poorer countries where regulations are absent or poorly enforced, the use of agricultural chemicals can be hugely detrimental to the land, local ecosystem and the farmers’ health.
