About

Charity Tea is the tea that nourishes. As well as nourishing you from the inside out, Charity Tea also helps nourish children in New Zealand and overseas. They sell high quality, organic and ethically sourced tea, and the profits go to support New Zealand charities by providing a meal with every purchase.

Gill Bredl started Charity Tea after learning that in Haiti many children only eat 1 or 2 meals a day that often lack proper nutrients. More so, she learnt that food was not provided to children in hospital. Children that were abandoned or had no one to feed them simply had to go hungry.

To help solve this devastating problem, she started Ten18 International, a charity that raises money in New Zealand to support hungry children here at home, and in Haiti. Charity Tea was formed to fund and support those efforts.

Charity Tea donates $1 back to charity on every packet of tea purchased and $5 back on every bulk bag of tea purchased. These funds provide meals to a hungry child.

In addition to their work in Haiti, Charity Tea also works with charities in NZ to provide school lunches to children in need. Feedback from children suggests their stress is reduced as they don't need to worry about being hungry and can access the curriculum.

Charity Tea sells 4 ranges of loose leaf organic tea and 18 flavours – 9 of which are available for bulk supply in compostable tea bags.

Their wide range of tea comes from various suppliers around the world. One is a Kiwi grower who supplies their herbal health range. She grows the herbs organically and creates their specialist blends for maximum health benefits. Another supplier imports tea from small farmers in Kenya where they pay fair wages and also support literacy programmes in the community.

All of their teas are grown organically and packaging is compostable, refillable and recyclable.

“We are also a certified climate positive company which means we offset 120% of the carbon our business produces. We promote zero waste within our packaging and marketing processes to provide a low impact product.”
