Founding Story

Nadia and Elke are a mother daughter duo who love a good bush walk and spicy chai. Together, they dreamed up Husk and Honey, an endeavour driven by the need to see a change around fast, unethical and unsustainable consumerism.

Husk and Honey operate through pop-up stores, but also have a physical space called “The Cove Collective” located in Waipu which features plenty of goodies, from jewellery, homeware, bags, home decor, rugs, baby toys and more!

“Our hope is to provide you all with beautiful & unique products, that promise to be kind to the planet and its people... whilst remaining luxurious too!”

Fair Labour Commitments

Husk and Honey source their products from all around the world, including Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Aotearoa. They do their best to personally visit each place to ensure that workers are paid a living wage and work in line with fair trade guidelines.

Husk and Honey source their cashmere, wool, hemp and copper products from a supplier, Bishwas, in Nepal who provides training and work for Nepalese women in small villages, who otherwise would not have access to a living wage income. Bishwas works hard to provide women living remotely and in his village with work that fits into their lifestyle, prioritising culture and tradition before work and profit.

In Indonesia, Husk and Honey source a number of products (masks, aprons, homeware) from various women-led initiatives. These suppliers not only provide fair work for artisans, but also focus on community development. They also source a variety of handmade clothing and pottery items from Vietnam and Cambodia, creating a growth in job opportunities and helping to preserve traditional skills.

Environmental Commitments

Husk and Honey strives to ensure that the production, sourcing, manufacturing, packaging and disposal of each and every one of their products is considered. They implement sustainable and environmentally preferable solutions where and whenever possible.

They reduce waste by going digital and only using necessary packaging on products. They also do their best to reuse items in their store, including fixing broken or returned items, reselling them at a discounted price or upcycling packaging materials. They limit their own emissions and consumption as a business by picking up products when possible and only ordering small quantities of stock at a time. Finally, Husk and Honey recycle all packaging that comes into their store/studio and only use compostable or recyclable mailers (if not reused).

Community Commitments

At the heart of Husk and Honey is The Social Project, a dedicated part of their business that works to give back to the community.

A portion of each sale they make goes towards creating and distributing care packs for Te Ora Hou. Te Ora Hou is a national network, working with young people to ensure that they are provided with the support, space, time and resources they need to reach their full potential. This is done by guiding those who need it through life's inequities and hurdles, and providing them with the basic essentials they need to grow, learn and flourish in Aotearoa.

Husk and Honey’s Collectively Homegrown cookbook also donates 100% of profits to Women's Refuge NZ.
