Our Story

Friends Jo & Lauren started Etico after discovering a shared passion for the planet, slow living, and products with an ethical & honest ethos.

Etico’s products are both homegrown and sourced from overseas collectives and ethical suppliers. They are proud to be able to support Kiwi-Made and the many talented artisans in New Zealand. A passion for social contribution also drives Etico to seek out fair trade co-operatives and organisations who work with impoverished communities overseas.  Supporting these collectives empowers workers to thrive and become financially independent.

“With every purchase we make, we are giving back and it's heartening to see how small contributions can effect powerful changes for these communities - we're proud to even be a small part of that story!”

Etico sources sustainable and earth-friendly alternatives for everyday items around the home. They research and hunt out suppliers who share their same core values of honest origin, transparency and care.

A key part of this is looking for universally acknowledged certifications such as the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) for sustainably managed forests, and Fair-Trade Certification marks.

The Etico team is full of nature lovers and looking after the environment is a key part in all their decisions -- from sourcing products to sending them out to customers and everything in between.

One of the most concerning environmental issues to the Etico team is that waste from developed countries is finding its way (both by legal and illegal means) into impoverished communities where they don't have the resources to deal with it.

“We want to help by encouraging others to think about how waste is managed; to consider the benefits of a circular economy and a world where we don't turn a blind eye to the problems created when the developed world exports its waste to poorer countries.”
