Our Story
The Wellington Chocolate Factory makes award-winning organic and ethically-sourced chocolate of the highest quality. Their delicious bars are packed with flavour and are gentle on people and the earth.

Wellington Chocolate Factory (WCF) sources the “finest ethically traded cocoa in the world” to make their bars.
In 2010, when founder Rochelle Harrison was perfecting her chocolate recipe she tried cocoa beans from six different countries before settling on her source. Ultimately she decided that she liked the rich, fruity flavour of the beans from the Dominican Republic.
The easier decision was choosing to source fair-trade beans. Rochelle says that fair trade is a win-win for producers and consumers because it gives consumers an opportunity to purchase with their values and provides a better standard of living for the cocoa farmers and their families.
The Wellington Chocolate Factory’s beans are imported by Trade Aid, which means her cocoa provides growers and their communities with vital improvements like new water systems and schools.
The only other ingredient in WCF’s chocolate is sugar, which they also ensure is fair trade and organic.
Most other chocolate producers use vanilla, emulsifiers, extra cocoa butter, or other additives to change the taste and texture of their product but WCF achieves their robust flavours through bean choice and hands-on work alone.
Wellington Chocolate Factory was the first craft bean-to-bar factory to open its doors in New Zealand. In addition to the products sold on their website, you can stop by the Wellington Chocolate Factory’s cosy, coffee-house setting for one of their famous hot chocolates.
In 2018 their Peru bar was named the best small-batch organic dark chocolate in the world at the World Finals of the International Chocolate Awards.
