Founding Story

Nibblish was founded by Matthew and Melanie Bennett who sought to create allergy-safe snacks for their daughter Imogen who was born with allergies.

They began creating small batches of products in their family kitchen, then headed to supermarkets around Auckland, asking for a chance. More people started asking for Nibblish to be in supermarkets around Aotearoa, and from there, they have been putting more healthy snacks into pantries all over the country and across the ditch in Australia.

“We believe in great food, paying fair wages, reducing our waste, cutting emissions, and most of all making sustainable healthy snacks for you.”

Fair Trade Commitments

Nibblish sources their products from all over the world, including Ghana, Turkey and Canada. They deal directly with growers (which has grown to 1000 farmers) so they get the best price for their fruit.

They ensure that their growers are paid fairly, work in safe conditions and are supported to grow better quality crops with a higher yield. Their families get an education which provides them the means and passion to carry an environmental message on through the generations.

Nibblish helps transport their team to work and has a creche onsite so their female workers can continue to work. They provide lunch to their workers every day, sourced from local families so those people can pay for education and healthcare.

Environmental Commitments

Nibblish are aware of the environmental impact that their products have and are working hard to care for the planet. They ensure that all their water is recycled and sanitised each day through rainwater capture, which helps them minimise their water use.

Their plant in Ghana that processes and bakes their pineapple and mango snacks is solar-powered and they make use of waste in their production process. In Ghana, the skins and core from their fresh fruit goes into a biogas plant. Methane is given off, stored and used to power their dryers and other machines for production. Once these have been broken down, the leftovers then go back onto the fields to fertilise the next crop of fruit.

Nibblish chooses native plants to farm their ingredients, allowing their farmers to reduce or remove the need for chemical fertilisers and sprays because the soil and biodiversity of the region provides everything that is needed. Finally, Nibblish also plants at least 7 trees a day in areas such as Madagascar, Sri Lanka and Uruguay.

Community Commitments

On top of contributing to schools and sports clubs across New Zealand, Nibblish donates 10% of their profits to charities.

You can find Nibblish products in supermarkets all around New Zealand including Countdown, New World, Pak & Save and more.
