Our Story
Xaura believes that every woman deserves to feel radiant in their own special way. Through uniquely-made artisan clothing, they strive to empower women to freely express themselves and connect with their inner radiance.
Showcasing the beautiful hand techniques of India on modern timeless garments, Xaura is passionate about celebrating their artisans and preserving traditional skills. They aim to improve lives by providing makers with fair wages, a safe working environment and a valued career.
“All our garments are mindfully made from hand woven cotton fibers, handblock printed fabrics and hand embroidered.”
The use of age-old, handmade heritage techniques creates a higher demand for artisan skills in India. This means Xaura’s makers are able to determine their prices while working in their own villages and living a balanced lifestyle.
Xaura currently works with two women-run factories and sources their fabrics directly from suppliers that share the same ethical values. All their partner factories sign and comply with their code of conduct, ensuring that workers are fairly paid and working in safe conditions.
As for fabric suppliers, Xaura supports artisan communities who weave fabrics from their own homes in various villages.
“By working with these artisans and women owned businesses, we are creating livelihood for them in order to give them independence.”
When it comes to protecting the planet, Xaura does every bit they can. Their entire collection is produced with natural cotton fibres. Every garment is dyed with AZO-free dyes, otherwise known as dyes that are free from carcinogenic compounds.
They carefully package their handmade garments in recycled paper and reuse scrap fabrics to make stuffed gifts or small pouches!
Giving back to the community is an important part of their mission too. Every 6 months, they donate a portion of their profits to a vocational training centre in Allahabad that teaches girls in Uttar Pradesh, India to tailor, stitch and craft garments. Xaura also collaborates with two NGOs, Sewing Seed Project in Tamil Nadu and Sewa Ruuab in Delhi.
