Founding Story
When 21-year-old Maggie Hewitt discovered the fashion industry's environmental and social impact, she set out to create a brand where people and the planet could thrive.
Shifting from wholesale to a direct-to-consumer model in 2020, Maggie Marilyn strengthened its sustainability focus. They reached a new milestone in 2022 when they became a B Corp with a score of 109. Now, they aim for regeneration, leaving everything they touch better than before.
“We believe in building strong relationships rooted in reciprocity and trust with every person in our supply chain.”
Fair Labour Commitments
Maggie Marilyn’s garments are produced all around the world, from Nepal to Turkey. Their “Somewhere” collection line has full traceability from farm to finished garment, meaning that they can trace the supply chain right back to the farms where the fibres were produced.
All their suppliers and manufacturers have signed their Supplier Code of Conduct, which outlines the brand’s standards including living wage, working conditions, animal welfare, environmental management, chemical and water use, greenhouse gas emissions and waste management.
When the opportunities arise, members of the Maggie Marilyn travel to visit their partners around the world to ensure they understand the scope and capabilities of their partners in textile and garment production. They work with Ethical Edit, a Fairtrade certified sourcing and production company that connects brands with a network of suppliers in developing countries. They also collaborate frequently with other brands such as Outland Denim who support people out of modern slavery through their model of opportunity, employment, living wages and education.
Environmental Commitments
Maggie Marilyn ensures that their suppliers also share their strong commitment to environmental sustainability and hold third-party certifications for responsible water and chemical use. Their fabrics are made up of various sustainable materials including deadstock (leftover) fabrics, ethical non-mulesed wool, GOTS-certified textiles and more.
They also offset their emissions by securing carbon credits through CarbonZ; a platform that allows individuals and businesses to offset their emissions with traceable, tradeable, native carbon credits. Their customer-facing packaging is made up of carbon neutral mailer bags, made from approximately 80% Calcium Carbonate sourced from quarry waste and approximately 20% non-toxic recycled resin (HDPE). For larger customers, Maggie Marilyn uses custom made boxes made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified cardboard.
A large part of their circularity commitments include educating wearers on how to care for their lovely products through better washing and mending techniques.
Community Commitments
Maggie Marilyn is proud to partner with charities and social enterprises for their community events, and donate all ticket sales from events to these incredible organisations. To date, they have supported the work of Pillars, Trees For Survival, Dress For Success and Sweet Charity.
