Our Story

Duffle&Co is New Zealand's bag and accessories brand that is challenging the status quo and using fashion as a force for good! Their carefully handcrafted full-grain leather products are made ethically, fairly and sustainably.

The mission of Duffle&Co has always been to give talented craftspeople a fighting chance to support themselves. In many developing countries, craftspeople are losing their jobs when big fashion brands move their trade to sweatshops in China.

This is exactly what happened to Sundari and Gito, a couple that Duffle&Co’s founder, Danny, met while travelling in Bali. Having lost their jobs, they were struggling to make ends meet by selling their leather goods on the side of the road. With only a primary grade education, they didn't know how to use a computer, never mind promote their products to the wider world.

Danny realized he might have a solution that could help Sundari, Gito and many others who were in similar positions.

Now, more than 20 talented craftspeople work at Duffle&Co’s family-run workshop in Bali to produce quality leather goods. These workers are given safe conditions to explore their craft and paid fairly for their labour. Each item that a customer buys comes with a hand-signed label from the craftsman that made it.

Gito and Sundari help run the workshop and train others to create beautiful bags and accessories. The work has provided them with financial stability and allowed them to better provide for their children.

Duffle&Co products are made from premium, eco-friendly materials -- often scraps bound for the landfill or burn pile.

And if that wasn’t enough, the team also plant five mangrove trees in Indonesia on the islands around Bali for every purchase made.

Planting mangrove forests is a great way to reduce soil erosion and carbon in the air! Not only does the planting and nurturing of these trees provide more jobs to local communities, but they give local villagers fish supplies to live off.

Because of this, Duffle&Co is certified Climate Positive, which means that they actively offset any emissions they create by 120%.
