Our Story

Fairplay is a toy shop making a difference by connecting New Zealand families with sustainable, handcrafted toys that are both kind to the planet and to the people who make them.

Launched by Kiwi husband and wife team, Mandy and Andy, Fairplay was born out of a passion to find an alternative to the mass-produced plastic toys that dominate the market.

Fairplay stocks a wide range of toys, instruments and decorations for little ones’ rooms.

Wooden toys, Fairplay’s largest collection, are made from sustainable wood and finished with non-toxic, child-safe paint.

As well as traditional toys, like toys, blocks, puppets and role-play sets, Fairplay also stock more open-ended and educational toys, like puzzles and loose parts, all selected with the goal of fostering kids’ imagination and creativity in play.

Every single product in their shop is eco-friendly and made from natural, sustainable or up-cycled materials with absolutely no plastic in sight, contributing to Fairplay’s vision of sustainable playtimes. 

Fairplay’s products are handcrafted by skilled artisans from all over the world. Fairplay source items from local collectives who ensure fair trade principles are upheld and that artisans receive a fair wage for their work.

One of Fairplay’s key suppliers – PlanToys are world-renowned manufacturers of quality, sustainable wooden toys and their production processes ensure the wellbeing of staff, consumers and the planet.

A carbon-neutral company, their toys are made from natural rubberwood trees that no longer produce latex and would otherwise be burned. They apply only organic colour pigment and water-based dyes to all their products - no lead or any other heavy metals.

A portion of the profits from Fairplay’s sales contribute to monthly donations to two incredible charities that support, empower and uplift women who are trying to build better lives for themselves:

• Woven Earth is a New Zealand charity that works with Shine, Women’s Refuge, New Zealand Police and Victim Support to help family violence survivors across the Auckland region rebuild their lives.
