Fashion Revolution NZ

  • Founded by Carry Somers and Orsola de Castro in the wake of the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013, this movement envisions a global fashion industry that conserves and restores the environment and values people over growth and profit.

Local designers and producers, international brands, the retailers breaking the mould by bringing ethically produced fashion to the public and the educators and organisations working hard to make traceability an everyday reality in the fashion industry.

Just Kai

  • Food produced with slave labour is hidden in plain sight in every supermarket in New Zealand. Just Kai exists to change that. Just Kai are a group of Kiwis trying to encourage other Kiwis to only buy food they're confident wasn't produced by slaves. If we all do that, the market that's dependent on slave labour will wither away and millions of people will be set free.

Just Kai research supply chains to find and promote slave-free choices. Their focus is the three foods where slavery is most common, which are fish, cocoa, and sugar. They produce buying guides on cocoa/chocolate, sugar, and various sectors of the fish industry.

Subscribe to their blog or Facebook page for updates and to receive seasonal guides such as our annual Easter chocolate guide.

Their main researcher, Heather Roberts, is available to speak at community organisations and events, particularly in the Auckland region.

Compassionate Consumerism

  • As a teenager Helen was struck by the phrase “To whom much is given, of them much is expected” and what that might mean for those of us fortunate enough to live in NZ. While supporting various endeavours over the years, in the last decade she has become involved with a range of fair trade organisations.

In 2022, while laid up with an injury, she wrote the hour version of Compassionate Consumerism. She facilitated it with 20 people and received great feedback. Since then she has taught it to smaller groups and continued to receive good feedback.

As the author of the course she is able to tailor make each course to suit the context in which it is being offered. Helen offers her time for free and just asks for a small contribution towards travel costs. For more information you can reach out to her at compassionateconsumerismnz@gmail.com

Goody Good

  • GoodyGood is climate action anyone can do. Take care of your climate impact from $6/week with certified, evidence-based projects run by clever clogs who know what they’re doing when it comes to cleaning up carbon emissions.

They hand-pick projects that are making real, certified carbon reductions and buy carbon reductions from these projects in bulk. Customers can then buy carbon reductions from them in fun, bite-sized pieces.

The carbon credits on their plans are from projects in developing countries. The credits are certified under the Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard, Plan Vivo Standard or the United Nations' UNFCCC CER mechanism.

The projects they choose also hit a number of UN Sustainable Development Goals, and progress other really important objectives, like biodiversity and conservation.

CoGo

  • CoGo’s carbon tracking API and consumer App enables users and businesses worldwide to measure, reduce and compensate for their impact on people and the planet. The API enables banks and other corporations to integrate carbon and sustainability data into their customer experiences - for example by providing bank customers their carbon footprint within the bank's own mobile app.

Their technology supports behaviour change through its world-leading ‘ethical nudge framework’ and offers users the ability to offset the balance of their impact via carbon credits.

CoGo’s pioneering technology and data helps people better understand the effects of their daily decisions and helps them take climate action.

“We support and encourage people on their journey to becoming more conscious consumers. We believe in a new ‘impact economy’ where all businesses are a force for good.”

Downlights New Zealand

  • Downlights found its beginnings with Illumina, which was born in 2013 from Jennifer’s passion and desire to create a luxe candle company that manufactured the longest burning fragrant hand poured soy candles. She dreamt of curating a library of unique fragrances that would easily transform a space in terms of light and mood, creating an ambience that could evoke past memories or inspire new ones.

As social entrepreneurs, the team offer their latest candle ranges to schools, community groups and charities so that they can fulfil their fundraising endeavours. Made with love, the candles result in a superior New Zealand hand crafted candle range that empower people with disabilities.

The company’s tagline ‘illuminate-care-change’ amplifies their dream to set an example for other employers in New Zealand by looking to ‘illuminate’ and light the way by creating jobs and showing ‘care’ as a community by offering opportunities within our company. We hope that one day, this will pave the way for ‘change’ that leads to greater acceptance for people with special needs to be placed and valued in today’s growing workforce.
