About

Mane (an acronym for Made At No Expense) Project is a multi-brand company dedicated to transparent ethical manufacturing and using only organic textiles.

They are home to New Zealand’s leading ethical street fashion brands, Arc & Bow and Bare Bones.

Arc & Bow and Bare Bones were founded in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Their loud-printed garments have simple and elegant lines that create a balanced and beautiful statement.

All design happens in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand while manufacturing takes place in four ethical factories across India.

While the mission and vision of each factory varies, they all have a unique skill set identified to produce high-quality garments from a place of respect for people and the planet.

The Mane Project team work hard to ensure that business is conducted with respect for their suppliers’ cultures, leaving no room for discrimination of any kind within their supply chain networks.

“Our heart for goodness is reflected in our values and who we choose to do business with, in particular seeking factories who share our vision, mission and five core values.”

The Mane Project operates under 5 core values:

  • Transparency: They’re upfront with their customers about their methods and supply chain.

  • Collaboration: They seek to encourage other brands in their ethical journey.

  • Fair Trade: They challenge ourselves to not just meet, but go above and beyond to ensure that workers are happy in their jobs, paid fairly, work in safe conditions, and aren't discriminated against.

  • Gender Equality: They celebrate women and are proactive in standing against gender inequality.

  • Quality: They pledge to offer quality products made with love, care and no underlying nasty business.

The Mane Project is also very dedicated to taking care of the planet. All of their cotton is 100% organic and they source their fabric from scraps or get it custom-made to reduce waste. Some of their fabric is handwoven in India using a technique that dates to the 12th & 13th century.

Their signature prints are created by hand using block or screen printing methods. All dyes that are used for hand block printing, screen printing, or solid colour dyeing are low impact AZO-free chemical dyes certified by GOTS.
