ETHOS & Co

ETHOS & Co’s biome-based body-care supports the skin’s natural regeneration and radiance, with living lactobacillus probiotics and natural bio-ferment actives. Their hero ingredient is uniquely hand-fermented virgin coconut oil from Cambodia, made from organically grown coconuts directly sourced from family growers. They’ve created two ranges – one for sensitive skin, and one for healthy skin aging, building a healthier skin microbiome to tackle sensitivity and skin concerns.

Our Story

Practiced for thousands of years by every culture, fermentation is an ancient blend of science and tradition. When ETHOS & Co founders Hana & Gerard teamed up with an artisan producer of fermented coconut oil in Cambodia in 2017, it sparked their
interest in probiotics as the future of skincare.

For 7 years, we’ve worked in the village of Kampot, helping local families sustainably produce food and increase their incomes.

After scientifically validating the coconut oil’s living probiotics and researching the
skin benefits of fermentation bio-actives (‘super-ferments’), they’ve built a brand that
cares for the skin from the microbiome up, combining nature’s blueprint, the latest
science, and local tradition.

They’ve used the best microbiome science to select 100% natural-origin
ingredients which are:
* better for the beneficial microbes living on our skin which protect skin health
* safer for our overall health,
* and safer for the environment once washed off.

ETHOS & Co’s origin story lies in Southern Cambodia, where Kiwi couple Gerard and Hana have built strong community relationships over the past 16 years. They’re committed to helping restore both skin and nature biodiversity, and enriching the communities they operate in.

With their Cambodian partner they direct source coconuts from rural families who
typically own around 10-15 coconut trees, (for many this makes up around 40% of
their income), and they help support the fair-wage employment of women who make the coconut oil. Through the ETHOS Foundation, they provide regular community
outreach meals for Cambodian children locally, and they donate skincare products to
families in need with skin conditions in NZ.

In Cambodia they help fund a seagrass mapping conservation project and in NZ they support community ecosystem restoration at the Kaipātiki Project.

As a company, ETHOS & Co is committed to ensuring that all suppliers have minimum social and environmental responsibility standards and monitoring in place
for their own company plus their suppliers.
