Clothing is one of life's essentials. Yet not all clothing is created equal. For labourers in the clothing industry, life can be a struggle. But Living Fibres knows that it doesn't have to be this way.
Living Fibres is run by a husband and wife team set on doing things a little differently. They want to create an opportunity for new growth within the lives of the producers and workers.
“Knowing the terrible impact fast fashion has on farmers, garment workers, local communities and the environment; we simply couldn't stick with the status quo.”
Living Fibres’ store is focused on products that have been independently certified both Fairtrade and Organic. Their goal is ultimately to make ethical clothing more readily available in New Zealand.
One of the big challenges facing ethical clothing is the price. Living Fibres wants to make ethical clothing more accessible and affordable for consumers.
To do this, they have a particular focus on essentials – stocking a range of underwear, socks and bralettes, at the most affordable prices in New Zealand for Fairtrade and Organic-certified essentials.
They also stock an ever-changing range of men's and women's clothing including tees, shorts and hoodies; and accessories including scarves and bags.

All of their products are made from certified Fairtrade and Organic cotton. Their suppliers have robust supply chains that are continually monitored for excellence and compliance to Fairtrade and organic standards.
Clothing manufacturing is traditionally a very dirty process, as many consumers now know. That’s why Living Fibres only partners with brands that have proven to keep a clean process.
“We couldn't stand for the status quo when it came to the environmental impacts of clothing, so we partnered with brands who were going about it the right way.”
All of their partner brands are GOTS certified. This controls the entire supply chain, starting with the farmers. There is no use of GMO seeds or hazardous insecticides and pesticides. Hazardous chemicals including dyes and bleaches are also banned in the manufacturing of the clothing, and the wastewater is treated to protect the water supplies.
Living Fibres is truly setting an example for the future of our clothing industry. They have shown that our garments can be ethical, green and affordable.
